There is one thing in this life we need to be selfish about, and that is our soul. God gave each of us an eternal soul and He expects us to keep it for Him. Our soul requires maintenance. It must be nurtured and fed daily with the Word of God. Most folks maintain their homes and cars because they are important to them; needful. We try to keep our phones, TVs, appliances in top...-top shape, but so often we spend so much time taking care of the physical things in our lives that we forget the most important - the spiritual. If we do not take the time to do soul- maintenance, we are subject to a hardening of the heart and that is a killer - a spiritual killer. If we are not studying the Word of God daily, we will depart from the faith and our conscience can be seared (1 Timothy 4:2), causing us to be easily deceived by the devil. The result of this will cause us to lose our soul eternally. Just as the man who knows his physical house is falling down around him, is foolish for doing nothing to prevent disaster, so is the man/woman who allows their spiritual life to fall apart resulting in the worst disaster imaginable - that of losing one's soul to eternal damnation. When it comes to our soul that is one time we NEED to be selfish and put it ahead of everything else in this world. If we do not secure our own soul, how can we expect to teach others and save their souls?
